March 2023 Slice of Life challenge
It was wonderful to participate in the this year's Slice once again. It's surprising to me that I now have 4 years of experience participating in this challenge. I look forward to doing it again next year. I enjoyed writing down my thoughts sometimes poetically and other times not so poetically. I also loved reading other people's posts and learning things about my colleagues that I otherwise wouldn't have known. Many of the post I have taken in I can see being an inspiration for my future writings. One post topic that I am sure to ponder is the one that asked what would I do instead if I wasn't a teacher. I have lots of thoughts about that topic and I look forward to sharing them. Thank you to those of you who read my posts and also to the few who commented. Farewell dear Slice, farewell.

I plead chances to recover have passed no more lives Hiding from irritation Alone Avoiding nothing to accomplish Hiding or alone to an outsider both look the same to an insider feel distinctively different one on the edge the other stable Do song lyrics ever randomly pop into your head when you are about to say something very similar to the song lyric? This happens to me on a daily basis. I have always wanted to write a post referencing this silly phenomenon. I tell myself that I will write them down when they happen so I can catalog all the different song lyrics that appear to me at various moments. However, I rarely remember to write them down and then when it comes time to blog about it I cannot remember all the very cool examples. So you are gonna have to take my word for it. Enjoy a couple examples I luckily wrote down so you can get an idea of what I am talking about.
Example 1 My husband: I’d rather just bag it and put a garbage sticker on it and call it a day. Me: “I got to bag it up, (Bag it up.) I like the way you work it, no diggity” -Blackstreet-No Diggity Example 2 Referring to who’s going to clean up the mess of rice crispy crumbs left on the kitchen table by my daughter. Me: “It’s gonna be me.” -NSYNC Example 3 H: Are you okay? M: Oh, sometimes they (my daughters) just drive me crazy. M: “She drives me crazy oo, oo…”. -Fine Young Cannibals caught

I would settle in the back Hiding from the mirrors Behind any curious eyes And stay very close to the exit For my possible escape Now I have a spot that is mine It is tucked in the corner Opposite of the exit door Where the two mirrored walls meet Able to see my alignment from all angles There is even a handy side table Where I can set my glasses Honestly, The spot isn’t really mine It is a spot others covet If I do not arrive early Someone will be in that space And I HATE when that happens I know I should be flexible And be able to function from any space in the room Which I can, but getting MY, that spot Is a kind of an obsession I have a key to the studio So I have an advantage I can get there before the teacher Lay out my mat And all is well However, driving to the studio I half worry That anyone who passes me Is racing to get my spot Upon arriving in the parking lot I see that I am the first car I still gather my belongings Quite quickly In case someone else pulls up Alongside me Once I key in And the door snaps closed Locked behind me I am home free Walk away
no acknowledging no response door clicks shut chances are we are left talking to ourselves insincere effort felt in the air of indifference in your response merely echoing what was spoken seconds ago walk away are you aware either you don’t reckon you are doing it acting offended at the accusation or A lie contemplating the value of the thoughts spewed into the open Struggling to figure out if they are indeed unworthy Stifled falling silent |
