Setting Intentions
March 2023 Slice of Life challenge
It’s happened again. Whenever I am on break from work whether it’s spring, winter or summer break my intentions are always to build my routine around my usual early wake up time. Now we’re on a different kind of break and inevitably over the last few days my 4:50am wake up time slowly crept later and later to the point where I was in bed in my pajamas during our first 9am Zoom staff meeting. It hasn’t even been a full week off yet. My first-thing-in-the-morning workout has turned into a 3pm or later workout. My kids have followed suit and are not even getting out of bed until after 9am. I am going to give myself some grace and keep patting myself on the back for doing all I can to keep myself and my kids engaged throughout the day. What does it matter what time we actually do everything? Now we have the time flexibility to do it when we feel like it and not just when we are forced to cram it into our otherwise hectic schedules. So my plan is to revel in the flexibility we’ve been strangely gifted.

Love the outlook! Like, what else are we going to do? Keep it together for the kids, go easy on scheduling, and use it to your advantage. Love your use of the word "grace", here. Good luck. We'll make it out on the other side eventually. thank you for sharing this.

I am still getting up pretty close to my usual time. The big change is the afternoon nap, which is becoming more of a regular thing.

Oh that is me, too. I no longer see the point of being out of bed before the sunrise. And I get started on the oddest things in the morning. My law used to be "yoga first" but I am messing around with finding new structures. I appreciate your explanation that you're giving yourself grace. I think I'm healthier for that rather than demanding a routine when so many things I do have changed. Why not be in PJ's for staff zoom?

I love this perspective. I feel like this is such uncharted territory too, that what worked so well for my days that were filled with daycare drop-offs and work inside a school building, doesn't necessarily work for a day filled with caring for my own kids and working from within my home. It's a new balance, and the old schedule just doesn't fit!

It really doesn't matter what time it gets done:) It's great that you can see the flexibility as a gift. The funny thing for me is that today my son woke up at 10:00. He didn't like it. When it was lunchtime he said it came too soon. Interesting words from a senior who finally gets to sleep in a bit.
